They say there are no new scams, just repackaged old scams. The QuckBit.com scam is no different. SameO SameO.

Nigerian PrinceI am sure you are all familiar with the Nigerian Prince, who has inherited millions of dollars. Unfortunately his wealth is locked up in some sort of probate and he needs help to get the money out. If you just send him $1,000 he will be able to unlock the money and he will share it with you. Well friends, that is the QuckBit.com scam in a nutshell.

And as I show you below, there are many other sites exaclty like it, so If you  weren’t looking for quckBit, hang in there, it is probably the same scam.

QuckBit.com Scam on Discord

For me, It started when I recieved an alert of a direct message on Discord on my phone. I subscribe to a few crypto currency channels there.

The message said that I won a random drawing and was awarded .497 Bitcoin. I laughed out loud. My coworkers looked up, but quickly went about their business. At that point in time, .497 $BTC was worth approximatly $16,000. I thought, this ought to be fun, so I entered the URL in to my browser, QuickBit.com. Up came a seemingly legitimate site. I thought this is odd. So I searched QuickBit.com and found a very legitimate crypto currency exchange. There is plenty of background information. I set it aside and went back to work.

When I got home, i went to Discord and looked at the message.  Thats when I noticed

If you go to quckbit.com, the site is quite different that QuickBit.  This is actually a bit surprising.  However nobody said scammers were smart.

My Investigation

I am a curious person, and like to find these scams so I ventured forth to sign up.  I entered my good friend WTFWilly@gmail.com (a fake email)  and I was registered.

Signup page for QuckBit.com

What is remarkable about this, is that I did not even have to enter a name.  Not one piece of identifying information was required to open the account.  Had I been presented something to enter the information, I would have entered a fake name, but I didn’t even have to do that.

Claiming my prize

After signing in, I followed the instructions to activate the promotional code and it placed .497 Bitcoin in my account.

The website is rather sophisticated.  I moved the funds from wallet to trading and back, and it even let me exchange my $BTC for Ethereum ($ETH) for a small fee, a percentage of my $BTC.

I moved the $ETH back to my wallet, and then went to withdraw it, or transfer it to my MetaMask wallet.  Thats how I learned it was a deposit scam.

I had to deposit .01 $BTC or $328 US, in order to withdraw my prize.

QuckBit URL is made to look like Quickbit intentionally

This is a common phishing technique.  Usually, these are inteneded to steal your identiy. You see a familiar link, you land on a familiar website and enter your user id and password, then, they got you.

Although this scam uses a common phishing technique, this is a deposit scam.

Who Owns the Website

The QuckBit.com is registered anonymously in Iceland.  It was created on June 8, 2021.   The Whois query did not show where it was hosted so I pinged the URL to get IP address, and did a whois query on that:

Other Scam Websites with the same design

As I show in the video (below), when Investigated the IP address, I found several other websites that had different URL’s but all had the same exact design.  I checked 14 of them, and had had enough by then.  A few of my fav’s include  btctruck.com, bitruner.com, Immortalex.com, and my favorite of all – broskobit.com

There is a list of all 65 sites at the end of the article.

Is QuckBit.com Legit?

No.  It is a deposit scam. Just like the Nigerian Prince, you deposit some money, and that is the last you see of it.  Please keep in mind that QuickBit.com is a legitmate cryptocurrency exchange.

With so many identical sites, consider that the deposit scam is probably not the only scam these guys are running.  An exit scam is real possibility as well.

So there you have it folks, a scam from some sophisticated, but not too clever Russians.

Stay safe folks
