When I found safe-register.com it was attached to an adult game site. I have since learned there are multiple sites that might be billed under the same name. The names of the sites are too graphic for this article. It said it was free, but it was not. Charges of more than $129 could be headed your way.
As scams go, it is a pretty straight forward situation. They tell you the game is free, but you have to confirm you are at least 18 years old. If you have a credit card charge from safe-register, it is likely that more charges are coming. You need to act quickly.
After reading this article, I encourage you to verify this information for yourself. The article will cover:
- How it ended up on your credit card
- Why More Charges are Coming to your Credit Card
- How to cancel safe-register.com
What is safe-register.com?
safe-register.com is the billing name a set of adult themed game and entertainment sites. It is used for discreet billing, and it is the customer service website. The charge often appears with the customer service number such as: safe-register.com (877)397-9872.
Is the safe-register site legitimate?
The gaming site is real, but I know nothing of its’ content.
The question really is:
How did you get signed up for safe-register?
And why is it on your credit card? When I found the site, it advertised as free, but it had hidden charges.
Behind the sign-ups are trial-periods for the game, and other adult oriented sites. When the trial period ends, it becomes an expensive monthly subscription.
How They Trick You
The charges were hard to find, using what I call the too big for the smart phone trick. You can see this in the video link at the end of this article.
The Hidden Charges
The charges were visible but only if you scrolled sideways (on your smart phone). They were viewable on a desktop in fine print.
The Bonus Offers
When I found safe-register.com there were 2 “bonus” offers:
- Loads of XXX at $39.99 per month
- Mega X Archive at $49.99 per month
In all there were $129.93 in monthly charges for this “free” adult game. The trial periods vary, so you might not see charges until the next month after you discover safe-register.
This is among the many reasons I recommend canceling your credit card and getting a new one.
White Label Operations
The bonus offer sites, are what is known as a private label, or branded site. In white Label operation, there is a company that runs the website, billing and customer service. The private label is a facade, or wrapper around the white label of what ever theme an entrepeneur wants to create. It is a single set of content, with many websites displaying it.
In the case of these bonus offers, they are the same white label. If you paid for this, it means you paid for the same thing twice!
Did you know you gave your credit card to a shell company in Cyprus?
Who Owns safe-register.com?
The owner is Glondon Limited, Kleomenous 2, 1st Floor, Office 12, 1061 Nicosia, Cyprus
The registered director according to the i-Cyprus web site is Antogoni Xenofontos.
Companies are in Cyprus because of the low tax rate, and because they can do so anonymously. A law firm can file the papers and anonymity is protected by lawyer client privilege. The real owner might not be listed with the company. Antogoni might be the owner, or she might be just a figure-head.
Risks when Safe-Register.com is on your Credit Card
In my opinion, doing business with Glondon (or any company in Cyprus) is not safe. Here is why…
1. Privacy
You do not really know anything about the operations of this company, nor the white-label sites that have your information.
2. More Charges are Coming
The charge to your credit card account is a monthly charge. Additionally, there might be charges from “bonus” offers, in the form of additional trial memberships. I hear from readers quite often that they have with 2, 3, or more charges on their account. Those charges might appear under a different generic name. Therefore, I recommend that you cancel your credit card.
3. Other Risks
The risks go beyond a shell company (Glondon) operating in Cyprus:
- Your “date” was a dude in a faraway country. He sent you to a façade website. What other information did you give them?
- Your “date” will likely sell your email and cell phone number on the dark web. Be on the alert for spam and phishing attacks.
- The white label company is unknown.
- There is an unknown payment processor who has your credit card information, and makes the charges on behalf of safe-register.com.
4. Risk of Identity Theft
Combine unknown companies with unknown security practices, add in that you gave some of your information to a scammer, and you have a great recipe for Identity Theft.
Who Has Your Credit Card and Personal Information?
I have no idea. When you entered your credit card, you gave it to a white label service company. That company is well hidden. An unknown payment processing company handles all credit card transactions. There are trustworthy payment processors, and there are untrustworthy payment processors. Glondon will legally have access to it. An unknown customer service outsourcing company handles customer service.
Then there is your “date” who has your email, and or phone number, name, and??
