Safe and Single is a theme for a multitude of sites. Scammers use use a series of different URL’s with similar, somtimes the exact same web page design.   Safe and Single is an attempt to get your money through a “get verified” online dating scam. Let’s see how they do it…

The Setup

I responded to what I knew was a fake, online dating ad. I recieved an email reply

This infact was just a script, or a “bot” that was replying to me.  It is one of about 9 emails I recieved from “Kathleen”.   The first reply is one that looks for a response so they know they have a good email.  Once you are in the cycle of these bots, you literally can say anything. Not even the bot reads the response.

The Safe and Single Scam Site

The site touts that it will verify you, and make sure you are at least 18 years old and not a sex offender.

Since US law prohibits credit cards from being issued to minors under the age of 18, we use them to verify your age and check that you are not a registered sex offender. If you are cleared as safe and over 18, you receive a FREE membership

In order to find out what is really going on in these websites, you need to look at the source code.  Here is what you will find

Thru use of a web programming command, known as iFrame, you are typing your information into another site, without knowing it. The iframe command displays the content from another site, within the site currently displayed in your browser. In this case, Safe and Single uses the website softrtcknow.info to present the webpage where you are typing.  It is what is called an affiliate link, that will direct you to another site.  Check out this trace from wheregoes.com:

If you click on the link inside the source code you find where you land

Note the url  at the top of the image, dkwpnv.com.   Below the submit button, which you could not see before, you find that it is the billing name and customer service site for a low quality online dating site, Fix You with My Love.  You will be charged $39.99 per month.

If you found this website, and the URL is different than the above, don’t worry, it is the same scam.
These sites come and go.  This is because sites out live their usefulness, or get taken down by the hosting company.  When this happens, the scammer copyies the code from one site to another and they are back in business. It only takes about 15-20 minutes to set up one of these sites.

Who Owns these sites?

The current site  fastdates24, is registered anonymously.  Some of the older sites are registered.
The owner of the freeageverificationinfo.com site is Mamun Ali, who reports his location as Dhaka, Bangladesh.

There are many people who run the scam, so we cannot know who is behind the current pages.  Therefore, it could be Mamun and he wised up, or it could be someone else entirely.

Safe and Single is Not Free

The charges in this example are$39.99 per month, after a 2 day trial period.   Other versions of the scam are much more costly.  They often have hidden bonus offers to other dating sites, or adult entertainment sites.  2-3 bonus offers is common, with charges up to $140.00 per month.
